In 1994, the China Wildlife Conservation Association signed a 12-year cooperative research agreement with the San Diego zoo association. Bai Yun and Shi Shi, two giant pandas from Wolong, arrived at the San Diego zoo in 1996 for a collaborative study.
In 2003, male giant panda Gao Gao took over from Shi Shi to the United States.
In 1999, giant panda, Bai Yun, gave birth to her first baby and after that, there were six panda cubs born in the United States, including Mei Sheng, Su Lin, Zhen Zhen, Yun Zi and Xiao Liwu. Apart from Xiao Liwu born in 2012, the five cubs have returned to the China.

Panda introduction:
In 1994, the China Wildlife Conservation Association signed a 10-year cooperative research agreement with the Smithsonian National Park, Washington, D.C. After the agreement expired, the two sides signed a five-year extension agreement in 2011.
At the end of 2000, two pandas, Mei Xiang and Tian Tian arrived at the Smithsonian National Park for cooperative research.
In 2005, Mei Xiang and Tian Tian gave birth to panda cub Tai Shan. The cub returned to the Bifengxia Base in China in 2010.
In August 2013, Mei Xiang gave birth to the panda cub Bao Bao.
